Presentation

Sculptor and painter Philippe Lonzi was born in Paris on the 22nd of August in 1955. He now lives and works in the Gard region.

For Lonzi, sculpture is the sincerest form of expression, but it wasn't until 2017 that he decided to devote himself to it entirely. Before launching his artistic career, Lonzi spent a long time working in an electronics business that he had set up himself.

Lonzi works mainly with steel, cutting his works from new metal which contributes to its characteristically complex aesthetic. His sculptures are often abstract and based on geometric forms, creating tricks of shadow and light thanks to his involved construction techniques. Each creation represents a new direction and an opportunity for the artist to travel deeper into his thoughts.

The delicacy of his touch remains evident even throughout his contrastingly violent creative process, in which he scorches the metal and cuts at it with his tools. Each new creation comes from the reflexion of the artist and serves as a witness to the limitlessness of creative emotion.

In the sculpture of Philippe Lonzi, full equals empty and this juxtaposition contributes to the sense of metamorphosis underlying his works.
