Presentation

Menachem Gueffen was born in Palestine (Haifa) in 1930 to Polish Jewish parents. He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts of the “Bezalel Art School" in Jerusalem and then at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.

From 1959 to 1963, he moved to Paris and participated in the Salon des surindépendants in 1962 and the Salon de la jeunesse Peinture in 1963 at the Museum of Modern Art. He lives in the Latin Quarter and fully appreciates the prestige that this country represents for an artist. Everything is available to him. He was born to be an artist, he will be one all his life. London was then his home port until 1988 where he was very active artistically. O'Hana gallery has dedicated personal exhibitions to him on several occasions as well as Gallery One.

In 1977, the Museum of Natural History in New York commissioned a series of 5 paintings from him “The Cycle of Life of Judaism" which unfortunately cannot be accessed today, because it is well buried in the reserves…

In 1988, he decided to return to France. His production is still significant but he feels little supported by this country which does not notice the talent which takes up residence on its Mayenne lands. However, he lived there for 30 years with his wife Judy who left England for him.

He will never stop painting women, always women, as a manifesto to better understand and love them. But this time she will be little exposed. He will keep it for himself.

He lives in the Latin Quarter and fully appreciates the prestige that this country represents for an artist. Everything is offered to him. He was born to be an artist, he will be so all his life.

London was then his home port until 1988 when he was very active artistically. O'Hana gallery has devoted several personal exhibitions to him as well as Gallery One. Unfortunately it does not meet with the hoped-for success with the public and critics.

In 1977, the Museum of Natural History in New York commissioned him a series of 5 paintings "The Cycle of Life of Judaism" which unfortunately cannot be accessed today, because it is well buried in the reserves ...

In 1988, artistically breathless and weakened by doubt, he decided to return to France. Its production is still important but it feels little supported by this country which does not notice the talent which takes up residence on its Mayenne grounds. However, he lived there for 30 years with his wife Judy, who left England for him.

He will never stop painting woman, always woman, as a manifesto in order to better understand and love her. But this time it will be little exposed. He will keep it to himself.
