Presentation

Born in 1954, Yves Grouazel lives and works in Morbihan. Alongside his work as a carer, Yves Grouazel trained in the scenic and plastic arts. From this training stems the artist's creative process, based on the construction of space, the scenography of landscapes and light.

Yves Grouazel almost systematically begins his creations with a preparatory study, a sketch in black stone and cropped photographs, which will nourish his painting. Drawing his inspiration from the paintings of 17th and 18th century masters, the artist is attracted by the details of backgrounds, faraway places, horizon lines, "atmospheric perspectives", skies and clouds, as well as by representations and treatments of nature, rocks and reflections on water. Secondary, decorative elements extend the painter's thinking.

Although he paints landscapes, Yves Grouazel does not consider them to be of primary importance in his work: the notion of the non-subject is fundamental to the artist, whose preoccupation lies in the preparation of colors and their arrangement on a surface, as well as the gesture of painting.
